3 tips to quickly build your self-confidence..

slef-confidence-3-tips.jpg

Are you a confident person?

If you consider yourself to be confident, do you feel confident in every situation?

Most of us have strategies and ways of coping in situations when we don't feel confident, for example when we have to give a presentation at work, or going for a new job interview.

Sometimes however we can go through periods of just not feeling as confident as we usually do, maybe when life has thrown us a few knocks, or if things are not going our way, sometimes our self confidence can take a bit of a nose-dive!**

Well, there are some really simple things that you can implement straight away that have a surprising impact on how we feel and I delve into three of these things in today's video (APE style of course!)...so here we go..

Have you tried any of these before?

I'd love to hear from you if you think you'll be trying any of these strategies...and remember, they can work as 'one-off' strategies for specific things or events like a job interview for example, so give them a go.

Also, why not CLICK HERE and come on over to Facebook to share your experience with others sharing in the APE dialogue.  I'd love to hear from you.

Til next week!

Have you ever felt out of your depth at work, like maybe any minute you'll be found out?  That you're not really that confident, or that together or that knowledgeable about the thing you've been employed to do! Essentially that you're going to be found out..that all along you've been a fraud!

If you can relate to any of these feelings then you maybe be experiencing Imposter Syndrome.

Though this isn't a mental health issue per se, it can and does have a significant impact on you and your daily functioning.

It can impact how we feel about ourselves and our abilities. It can hinder what we do next, and how we move forward, and in short, your feelings of being a fraud and not being good enough may mean that you miss out on opportunities that come your way.

In today's video I look at this in a bit more detail and also share 4 things that you can do to start to overcome these feelings straight away.

Is having an on-line business the only way to be successful today?

blog-pic.jpg

Do you ever feel like your social media news-feeds are littered with messages about living a lap-top lifestyle?

Does it feel to you like everyone is living their dream via an on-line business?  Like all roads to success seem to start with what you can do on-line to make money which will in turn free up more of your time to have beach holidays and travel the world.. allowing you to conduct your business anywhere from Bognor to Bali?

I've noticed this creeping into our psyches of late, and my clients have noticed it too, as many feel a distinct push to make everything they do accessible on-line even if it feels very much in conflict with what they feel they really want to do.

Well, first of all, this post isn't about poo-poohing the on-line world or on-line businesses by any means...in fact A.P.E is in part an on-line business!  Also, with over 3 billion people across the globe on-line, it certainly IS a great way to connect with people and to help more people with your knowledge and services.

Having an on-line business can indeed be a great way to live a life you want, and like I've said, can allow you to help far more people than you may have been able to do 20 years ago.  The problem with this however, isn't so much that this is possible, but more so the push for everyone to do it.  And if they haven't done it yet, to imply that an on-line business is the only way someone can be successful or happy.

This just isn't true.

The fact is, is that not all jobs or careers are designed to be on-line.  What would we do without doctors and nurses caring for our sick?

What would we do without teachers in schools to teach our children?

What would we do without people to clean the streets, to work in cafes and to maintain our buildings?

Without people physically engaging in doing the work, working in real-time in all corners of our society, would it not be the case the society itself would suffer?

Though we don't look specifically at on-line businesses at APE, it inevitably crops up in discussions around change, as so many people wish to have businesses of their own.  It's also very much a part of the dialogue around finding your passion or your purpose.  Really thinking about what you're good at, and therefore how you wish to progress your ideas...in this case on-line or not?  Or maybe just how much?

Because this is a conversation that comes up again and again when looking at these things, I decided to rip the plaster off starting by what we do best here at APE, which is to have some fun with it first and foremost...and then consider the reality, ultimately addressing what it means for YOU.

So here we go...

What do you think?

It's certainly another risqué one this week, but nonetheless an important discussion to have.  I'd really love to know if this message means something to you.  Do you ever feel bombarded by this message and feel like you should be on-line.  Maybe you've already made the move, or maybe you're following a different path.  Please let us know below or do come over to the Facebook page to join in the discussion by clicking HERE.

Believe you can and you will: An exercise to help you deconstruct your beliefs...

belief-blog-pic.jpg

Do you believe in your ability to accomplish the things you dream about?

Do you believe that you can build a successful business?  Do you believe that you can find a truly loving relationship?

Do you believe that you can be financially secure?  Do you believe that you can change your mind-set and feel happier in yourself?

Well, as Henry Ford said in his famous quote..."think you can, or think you can't.  You're right!"

The power we have over our own destinies, our own realities, is far greater than we could ever imagine.  And the funny thing is that it all begins with not just having an idea or the imagination to dream and visualise what we want, but really, wholly and truly believing it's possible.

In my work as a psychologist working towards helping people make changes in their lives, and aside from looking at some of the basic building blocks like having that clear vision, and then setting goals to achieve it, we spend a lot of time throughout the process looking at deconstructing a persons beliefs.

You see, we can with the best will in the world put all of these great things in place, but at the end of all of that if someone walks away thinking that they can't really do it, or it's out of their grasp, that they don't really believe it's possible, then much of what you do in terms of all the other stuff, is futile.

Essentially you've got to really believe that you can.

That you can make this change and even spend some time on fleshing out how that might look and feel and then  - enter cheesy phrase - step into that reality!

Although I'll be spending a lot more time here looking at our beliefs and how they can either hold us back or propel us forward, in today's video I introduce a simple exercise to get the ball rolling with this one.  It's a powerful exercise that has you start to look at where your beliefs come from and how we can apply them to a specific action.  So without further ado...

What do you think?  Do try this exercise and I'd love to hear in the comments below what you've discovered about your own beliefs and maybe even, what you're going to do next?

Interview with APE client..Claire Lyons

blog-pic.jpg

Have you decided that 2018 is the year that you're going to make some big changes?

What is it you want to do?  Leave your job, start your business, write that book, lose weight or change your mind-set?

We often use the momentum at the beginning of a New Year and feelings of a fresh start to do things outside of our comfort zones, to try new things and to try and implement changes that we've wanted to for some time.

Well someone who did just that is Claire Lyons, who I've had the pleasure of interviewing for this week's blog post.

Claire is an ex-client and someone who I worked with at APE, helping Claire to make some big changes in her life.  When I met Claire she was working as a Mental Health professional, juggling multiple passions including writing, blogging and crafting not to mention looking after her 4, yes 4 children!

Though Claire, like most of my clients, is driven, accomplished and has many talents she can turn her hand to, she also had the insight that it would take an outside perspective and objective view to help her see things differently.  This she knew would  not only help her to actively move forward, but also challenge her and help her step outside of her comfort zone and help her ultimately make some changes she had been pondering for a while.

And that is exactly what she did!  Claire came to see me for 1:1 Psychology Coaching  and within a few months of working together Claire had left her job, and is now happily living a more balanced and fulfilled life being with her family but also running a business from home (or at least her lovely shed).  In this she focuses on helping other families to live an ethically-conscious life, while saving money.  Her business is called The Frugal Family..how perfect!

In this short interview, Claire tells you about her journey in her own words, about some of the difficulties in doing what she did, after all making big changes is not an easy thing to do, and how she came to achieve this with the help of our work together and input via the APE model.

So without further ado, may I introduce Claire...

I hope you found this interview interesting and that it's inspired you to go after your own dreams and pursue what you want to do this year.

If you'd like to find out more about Claire and her work and business then please check out her website at https://www.thefrugalfamily.co.uk

I'd also like to say as I do in the video, what a pleasure it's been to work with Claire. Working with anyone in this kind of process is a partnership, and it's through Claire's hard work and determination to work on herself that allowed change to happen (she was also incredibly organised!).

Managing your Mind-set for 2018!

mind-set-blog.jpg

Do you ever feel like you have thoughts or feelings that hold you back from doing what you really want to do?

Do you worry about the consequences of following your dreams?  Maybe you feel very unconfident and worry about how you appear to others, or you worry about what you 'should be' doing?

You might also be experiencing anxiety or feel stuck about where you are, or aren't in your life right now...time feels like it's running out, or you're still doing the wrong things!

First of all I want you to know that all of these feelings are completely normal.  You are not alone in thinking and feeling this way and even the most confident person will at some stage have feelings similar to this at one time or another.

In today's video I go into this in a bit more detail, sharing a case-study with you about someone who felt just like this. I also share a simple exercise that you can do to start un-blocking these blocks and feeling differently about how you approach things.

So, just click on the video below to get this party started...

I hope you found this useful as a starting point for you if you're feeling this way.  I'd also love to hear from you about how you've overcome your own blocks and feelings that don't serve you.

I must say that this is the start of a very important dialogue that I will be continuing over the next few weeks.  As well as this I'll be sharing with you some exciting new offers I'll be making to you if you'd like to know more about how you can start to make some big changes for yourself this year.

Until then, please do sign up if you'd to get this delivered to your in-box every week. In this I also share a little more than I do here, and you'll be the first to hear about all things going on behind the scenes here at APE.

Also if you'd like to keep the dialogue going then why not come on over to the APE Facebook page where I engage with people daily as well as answering questions.

Have an amazing week...you really can smash this year!
