The Psychology behind inaction and 3 tips to overcome it...

blog-inaction.jpg

Have you ever struggled to be in action and do the things you really want to do?

Maybe you know you want to get fit, and yet every day you find yourself struggling to go to the gym..again.

Maybe you really want to make a big career change but find yourself procrastinating and reading yet another book on what you could do instead of actually being in action about making any real, physical changes?

This might sound counter-intuitive to many, as surely if you really want to do something you will just get it done?  Right?

Well not everyone finds themselves in the position of jumping into action just because they know they want to achieve something.  Added to this is the stress and feelings of frustration can start to creep in and make us feel even worse as we struggle to get our head around the fact that we just can't seem to DO they very thing we think we want to do!

In today's video I take a look at the 3 main profiles of person that can find themselves in this situation.  Because by knowing why we might do this and where it ultimately comes from, we can gain insight into the things that then might help us get out of the vicious cycle we're in.

I also share 3 simple tips you can implement immediately to help you get out of that inactive rut...so here we go!

A.P.E Car Disc-e-oke: This week..Psychologists!

car-dic-plain-blog.jpg

I'm so excited to bring you this week's blog, which is APE Model's first Car Disc-e-oke!

YAAAYYYY!  Can you tell I'm excited?

This will be the first of many interviews and Disc-e-okes that you'll see, which are all about hearing from apes who are out there 'thinking differently', as the strap-line goes, as well as illustrating parts of the model itself.

These interviews will undoubtedly allow you to learn new things that I hope will inspire you and encourage you to take on new things yourself...or of course, just make you giggle...which is oh so good for the soul.

How apt that we begin the series this week with Psychologists, as this is my own profession as the founder of APE Model, and I just happen to know that there is so much to learn here, especially from these two amazing people.

So who are they?

They are the super-duper Professor Alex Sumich, and the incandescent Dr Claire Bloxham.  In the interview Alex and Claire tell us all about why they both entered the Psychology profession (spoiler - for one of them it had something to do with Ghostbusters!)..they then go on to tell us about the roles they have held, which include working in academia and also psychotherapy.

We also end up having a fascinating conversation all about depression and anxiety and discuss the most up to date research in the area and all this amongst laughing, and an attempt to sing a few songs in-between.

Without further ado...

**stay tuned for the outtakes!**

Did you know that your feelings might be holding you back from achieving great things?

feelings-pic.jpg

Have you ever set out to do something, and then frustratingly failed to stick to the plan of action that would get you to your exciting destination?

What was it that you wanted to do?  Did you want to start that business in the evenings so that you could finally leave your job?  Maybe get to the gym so you can lose that weight or finally write that book that's been tapping you on the shoulder for the last 10 years.

Where so many of us go wrong is that we buy into our feelings when it comes to trying to get stuff done.  We actually stop and before we launch into action and quite dangerously ask ourselves 'how we feel' about this thing we are about to do?

Ever had that happen...you're just about to start said activity and then think "I don't feel like doing doing this'....I feel really tired tonight'...'I don't feel up to this'...'I feel like really have earned a night off'.

If you can relate to this, and would like access to a simple strategy that you can implement immediately that will help then click on the video below.  In this video I'll be sharing with you why you might do this, and also how you can overcome these pesky feelings that are holding you back...

Of course I’d also love to hear from you.  Do you ever find yourself  frozen in in-action or maybe you can share with us how this simple strategy is working out for you.  Let us know down below in the comments or of course if you have any questions please just send them along to info@apeathy.com

The Psychology of Motivation: 7 tips to feeling more motivated.

untitled-design-4.jpg

Did you know that lazy people, even really, really lazy people are actually still very motivated?

This week at APE Model Psychology I'll be sharing with you a behind the scenes look at the psychology behind motivation.  How does motivation work?  Why do we sometimes feel motivated to do things and at other times what we think we want to do feels like the biggest struggle in the world; whether that is to go to work that day, to have the drive to start our own business, to write that book, to go out and actually meet that person or to go to the gym and finally get that gym body.

In today's video you'll get access to psychological 7 tips that will enable you to get under the skin of this pesky motivation issue.  You see, by understanding how motivation works, and how our brains have essentially evolved to behave in a way that sometimes works against us, you can begin to override it and then make those changes that you've always wanted to make.

So here we go...enjoy.

Of course I'd also love to hear from you.  Have you ever lacked motivation to do something that you thought you actually wanted to achieve? Maybe you have some tips of your own that have worked for you, and maybe you've even tried some of the ones I've shared here.  Let us know down below in the comments or of course if you have any questions please just send them along.
